This course focuses on the assisted stretch aspects of Thai Yoga, and is suitable for Thai massage students and professionals, yoga teachers, yoga practitioners and anyone interested in exploring the benefits of assisted stretch through the informative lens of therapeutic bodywork. The course is open to anyone, with or without prior Thai bodywork training. We will learn many Thai asanas that are not generally covered in the rest of our curriculum, including the basics of therapeutic Thai flying.

This course is fun and highly experiential, and will be helpful for anyone interested in working with others using a modality of therapeutic stretch. We cover sensitivity in determining end range, active and passive aspects of stretching, yoga adjustments and their relationship to Thai bodywork, use of reciprocal inhibition and postisometric relaxation, restorative, gravity assisted, flying and standing poses, proper body mechanics, use of the breath, and more.

The course is organized around a group of elemental yoga asanas representing major spinal and joint actions. For each pose, we discuss the energetic and physiological characteristics of the pose, possible limitations and therapeutic Thai asanas, yoga adjustments, and therapeutic Thai flying positions that would be helpful in advancing the student toward a fuller realization of the yoga asana.

We will discuss the origins of pain patterns that commonly occur in stretch positions, and simple techniques that can reduce or eliminate the pain and greatly enhance your and your clients' ability to fully experience the pose.

Come by yourself or with a partner. Dress comfortably for stretching, all materials and equipment are provided by the studio. You will receive a full-color workbook covering the hands on material and theoretical background. No Prerequisites.
